MTV FILMS Says "I Want my 'Better Luck Tomorrow'"
Better Luck Tomorrow, the first Asian American film acquired at the Sundance
Film Festival, will hit theatres early next year thanks to MTV Films, which
purchased domestic distribution rights to the film after its world premiere
at the 2002 festival in Park City, Utah.
"When I saw Better Luck Tomorrow, it was something that I instantly knew was
perfect for our brand," said Michael Cole, vice president of MTV Films. "The
great thing about this movie is that it's told from a completely unique perspective
that we've never seen before. At the same time it tells a universal coming-of-age
story."
The film's director Justin Lin said, "We are very excited to find a home with
MTV Films. MTV has always been the trendsetter for the youth market and we feel
that it can introduce our fresh type of storytelling to a new generation. MTV
Films recognizes that Better Luck Tomorrow deals with issues and concerns pertinent
to the youth audience."
MTV has high hopes for Better Luck Tomorrow in 2003. Cole said, "We can't afford
to fail. It's the first movie that we bought and we're certain that it will
be a hit."
